CLOWNS ON THE BORDER

The international youth exchange 'CLOWNS WITH BORDERS', which will take place between 20 and 29 July 2016 between Metlika and Adlešiči, will be attended by 42 young participants from 7 partner countries (Italy, Hungary, Greece, Slovenia, Great Britain, France and Croatia ). The goal of the youth exchange is to bring laughter and creativity to the border villages along the Kolpa river, which have recently witnessed unpleasant events related to the installation of a technical barrier, which is supposed to limit the unimpeded movement of refugees, along the border river Kolpa. With the project, we want to bring together young people who are interested in theater, circus, clowning, storytelling, video creation and anthropological field work, and create a caravan that will visit the border villages between Metlika and Adlešiči, otherwise known for their unspoiled nature and the hospitality of the locals. The caravan will bring joy, laughter and humor to villages recently affected by the installation of wire fences. The local context of the exchange will be the starting point for discussions and reflections on the topic of civil society rights, borders, borders and (de)bordering, democracy, human and environmental rights and access to public goods. Participants will visit border households, produce documentary and video contributions, interview locals and ensure that human stories from the margins reach the centers. We will ensure this with the help of online video channels and social networks. We will also organize events, e.g. a border storytelling evening, a circus performance and a final press conference, to which we will invite all important stakeholders from the local environment, the region and beyond. In our opinion, laughter/creativity is the best medicine for fear, so in this way we will tackle topics that touch us all and cause deep concern; with creativity that strengthens inner resilience, learning and empowerment, as well as self-initiative and entrepreneurship. This will be particularly important, as more than a third of our participants come from less privileged backgrounds; among them are Roma, descendants of African immigrants and young people with economic barriers. We want the exchange to help promote the fundamental values of the European Union, cooperation and inclusion at the local, regional, national and international/European level.
